Questions about the wiki
Q: How can I become a wiki user?
In order to become a wiki user, you need to register using the following link:
https://uq.math.cnrs.fr/index.php?do=register
Please use your professional email address if possible. This makes it easier for us to distinguish valid registration requests from spam.
After this registration, you will be added to the list of wiki contributors. This is a manual process, so do not expect it to be done instantaneously...
As a first step in your new life as a RT-UQ contributor, we invite you to add your name & affiliation in the Users list page.
Q: What is the point of becoming a wiki user?
The RT-UQ wiki is a collaborative website.
Becoming a wiki user will allow you to contribute to this website by editing some of its pages (see below) and thus share useful and relevant information with the community.
Q: How do I log in?
There is a "Login / register" button at the bottom of the left panel, which is available from any page of the wiki.
Click on it, type your user name + password, and you are logged in. (Of course, you need to be a registered wiki user in the first place.)
Q: Which pages can I edit as a wiki user?
The following pages are writable by all wiki contributors:
Q: How do I edit a page of the wiki?
First, you need to log in.
Then go to the page that you want to edit. It must be one of the pages that have the "contrib-writable" status, for instance "Jobs, theses, internships".
Once you are there, find "Edit the page" at the bottom of the left panel, and (as you have probably guessed by now) click on it.
Edit the page using the (very basic) wiki syntax, click on "Update preview" to check the result, and when you are done click on "Save" to validate the modification.
Don't be afraid, the wiki syntax is very simple. Imitating / copy-pasting another entry from the same page is usually a good place to start.
Questions about the mailing list
Q: What is the name of the RT-UQ mailing list?
A: rt-uq-news@listes.math.cnrs.fr
Q: How do I subscribe to the list?
A: Follow the link: subscribe.
Q: How do I send a message to the list?
A: Simply send an email as you to this address, as you would send any other email.
Please do not send an email asking us to forward your message to the list. Write directly the message that you want other people (mailing list subscribers) to read.
Q: How do I unsubscribe from the list?
A: Follow the link: unsubscribe.
How can I advertise... ?
Q: How can advertise a permanent or postdoc position through RT-UQ?
A: Permanent or postdoc positions can be advertised
- using the mailing list, and
- on the wiki: see "Jobs, thesis, internships" (you need to register first).
Q: How can advertise a PhD position through RT-UQ?
A: Similarly to postdoc positions (see above), PhD positions can be advertised both on the wiki and through the mailing list.
Q: How can advertise an internship offer through RT-UQ?
Internship offers (at the masters level, typically) can be advertised on the wiki only.
They are not accepted on the mailing list, which is not (or very rarely) read by students at this level.
Troubleshooting
Q: I cannot edit the page that I want to edit...
There should be an "Edit this page" link in the left panel, below the CNRS logo. It it's not there:
First, check that you are properly logged in. If you see "Login / Register" below the CNRS logo in the left panel, it means that you are not logged in.
Second, check that the page that you want to edit is "contrib-writable", i.e., can be edited by any user with "contrib" permission. [FIXME: How is it possible for a non-admin user to check this?]
Third, if you are properly logged in, and the page you want to edit is indeed contrib-writable, but the "Edit this page" link is still missing: try to use a different browser. In particular, we have had some report of difficulties with Chrome.
Finally, if none of the above solves the problem: call for help.
